Check out the bowling ball in the top left hand corner. It's decorated like a baseball!

Friday, November 27, 2009 . . . Again

In the afternoon the family went to Lambertville and walked across the bridge to New Hope. I thought this was a cool texture.

How do you make a paper you've written and read 40 times interesting? Use an orange gel pen to edit.

The flooded streets of Old Town Alexandria. The storm down south has caused a lot of rain and the water in the Potomac to rise. While we were there the water rose through the block.

ShutterCal's Project 365 Organizer

I follow the site for Project 365 and the occasionally send me emails about new things you can do with your photos. I got this idea in an email today and I think I'm going to do it! I was looking for a great way to organize my Project 365 photos and I think this might be it!

Thoughts?

In Crystal City to see the FOTOBAMA photo exhibit as a part of FotoWeekDC. This was in their underground mall.

This is how I was prompted to exit a parking garage. Just a bar and a button. I'm not going to lie, I was nervous to push it.

That's right. Flowers in November. This is an odd weather year.

Sunday, November 8, 2009

I went to Mattie Stepanek's peace park on Sunday. I heard about Mattie when I saw his mother, Jeni, on the news the other night. Her son suffered from a rare form of muscular dystrophy, dysautonomic mitochrondrial myopathy from which he died before his 14th birthday. His mother has just written a memoir about Mattie which is why she was on the news, but her son was astounding. Mattie published poems of peace and advocated on Capitol Hill for peace. Mattie had two other siblings who died from the same disease, and at the age of three, he learned to cope with the death of his brother through poetry. He published five books of poems, some of which were New York Timebest sellers!

Mattie and his family live in Rockville, MD. After his death they created a park in his name where a statue of him is in addition to football fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, a massive playground, a dog park, and more. On benches scattered around the park quotes from his poems are posted. It was a fantastic experience not only to see his mother talk about Mattie on the news last week, but to go to the park and see how much the community he lives in still loves him.

I ordered his books through the consortium from school so I'll be sure to share some poems when I read them hopefully next week.

Here are the photos I took at his Peace Park:

Terence was just scratching his head but he looks really emotional!

Look Mom! My first dunk! Dad will be so proud!

Peace and love.

An odd subject, I know, but I have always wanted to photograph this bridge in depth. I pass it on my way to Virginia and I THINK when Terence and I rented bikes last summer and rode along the C&O Canal we crossed this bridge but I don't remember. It's only walking distance from my apartment so I really have no excuse for not going back and taking photos. This photo can serve as a reminder to do that before it gets too cold.

The pumpkin I carved. I call it a success, even without a nose.

This was taken with Terence's Palm Pre. I wanted so badly to take pictures at Six Flags because when the theme park lights came on the park was beautiful. Just for kicks, here are the others I took. Happy Halloween!

My favorite spot in Princeton. The fountain on Princeton University's campus. I was happy the fountain was still running despite the recently cold weather.

This was my day on Thursday. Audacity, the sound editing program. I hope to never touch this program again. Or broadcast journalism for that matter. Dear Katie Couric, You can have it!

A scene from "The Breastilogues" a Women's Initiative event in order to raise money for AUs team in the Making Strides for Breast Cancer walk this past Saturday. It was a performance of a student written play featuring monologues of women's relationships with their breasts.
